Kandinsky Influenced Trees

What a great project for the 5th graders! Not only are they learning about a historical artist, but they get to use recycled materials, paint and draw abstract circles. Art couldn't be more interesting!

Our inspirational artist:
Wassily Kandinsky
Known as the father of Abstract Art
Famous for his concentric circles

Now what we are creating in class:

IT'S ALIVE!!!

No, it's just 3 dimensional!

2nd graders building magic monsters from Magic Nuudles!
Along with their monsters they will be creating a biography about where they come from and what they do.

MAKING ART LIKE THE CAVEMEN!

Cave Paintings in 3rd Grade

In this unit, Ms. Callie our students teacher, has discovered the idea to create art just like cavemen did over 20,000 years ago! However, we don't have caves, so we had to improvise and use our tables.

Students are focusing on historical art and how we can draw pictures to tell stories, just like the cavemen! What a fun and unique way to make art!

4th Grade Lines in Motion

Focusing on the Principles of Design: Movement and Rhythm

Fourth graders are focusing on lines in motion to display a moving subject through a variety of lines, shapes and patterns. Today we practiced in our sketchbooks and next we will be making lines in motion using pictures of ourselves. I can't wait to see the results!

Graphic Design

How do artists use the language of art in communication?

To complete our graphic design unit, students took on the role of graphic designers by working in pairs to develop a product and design the product box. Using recycled cardboard boxes and other materials, I was amazed once again at the creativity and originality that showed through with these designs!

5th Grade Musical Set Design

Well, I don't want to give it away...but I will give you a sneak peak behind the scenes of the 5th Grade Musical about African-American influence on music. Working with Mr. Ryan's class we are going to put on one heck of a show!

Found Object Sculptures

Setting Up

3rd Grade students are continuing their form and sculpture unit by creating sculptures from recycled and found objects. Studying the ideas of how different objects can work together and be attached to one another.

Students have a variety of objects to choose from and were encouraged to bring stuff from home. The room is set up for ease and acceptability (even though it's a mess!)

Planning

Students were able to draw their sculptures and plan different uses of materials and ways to connect each piece. They gathered their materials to save them later for construction.

Creating

Once students had their ideas planned and perfected, the creation process began! They were required to use a variety of materials, a variety of adhesives or ways to attach their materials and have a concept for their sculpture design in order to write a fictional story introducing their sculpture once completed.

It's amazing how creative my students can be with just some simple recycled materials! Precious!
