For our leaf rubbing project, I created some new crayons using old crayons. Great idea if you have a lot of old crayons lying around and it's quick and easy! I have had a lot of students ask me how this is done so here is the process if you want to try it at home (of course with the help of a parent):
First, unwrap all the crayons. Break them into small pieces in order to fit them into the pan, this way they will also melt faster.
Next, choose what shapes you want your new crayons to be, I chose circles. You can mix and match colors in one to get some different values of colors.
Then put them in the oven on 275. They cook quickly, usually in about 5 minutes so watch them carefully. Let them cool because they will be liquid when they come out of the oven.
Once they are cooled down you can remove them from the pan and WOW! Brand new crayons!
